Greens are Messy! by Annemarie

Today was a work day around here…cleaning up the house, putting things where they go, organizing, etc. We did manage to make it out of the house for a trip to Trader Joe’s which was a nice break from all of that.

I was doing some more reading last night about Baby Led Weaning (BLW) and found some good ideas for first foods for Burke to try. One of the most popular items is broccoli. Babies can grasp it easily since it has a big stem, and when it’s steamed, it’s pretty soft. So, I got some today, and also picked up a few other items as well.

Emily came to join us for our feast of chicken, pasta, salad, and broccoli….and got to witness Burke try his first bits of broccoli and avocado too!

He definitely played with it, and maybe some of it made it past his mouth? It’s ok if it didn’t, it’s really more about the playing for the next few months anyways, but I gather that he’ll pick up on the process quickly.  Babies are so smart!!   Even though he’s putting everything in his mouth, and reaching for our food, he might not be all that interested just yet.  It’s been so fun to watch him, and I love that he is joining us at the dinner table at the same time.

Calling all bibs, come to the rescue!! The brocolli and avocado are no problem, but some of those foods are going to give impossible stains. Wait til he slides his banana slice around and around on his tray – funny!!!! Banana is one of those stain killers! Have fun Burkester!

Or … just feed him naked. 🙂 Less stains.
